For three days, Matt and I went to Millstätter See in Carinthia, Austria, to visit his mother and stepfather who rented a house there for vacation. Also Mia, the world traveller, went with us. She's been to so many places already including Paris and Milan!
Millstätter See is one of the most beautiful and well known lakes in Austria with a total length of 12 kilometers. On its deepest point it's 140 meters deep, can you believe that? Also the quality of the water is so good that you can drink it which I still find impressive. I'm so lucky to live in such a nice country and I appreciate it so much.
As you might have seen in my last post, I was craving some relaxation and this was the perfect place for it after our trip to Croatia. The house was located in front of the sea with our own garden where we relaxed the whole day. There was also the possibility to use a paddleboat which I enjoyed a lot, we made a little trip on the sea, it was great! At Millstätter See, there are so many impressive mansions, a lot of them designed in the typical Austrian style. Also Mia had a lot of fun on the boat, she was our captain on the whole trip and she navigated us with her ears (just joking, but have a look at the picture with her on the boat). She also hopped from the boat when we stopped and swam a bit with Matt.
After our trip on the boat and a calm afternoon, we went to dinner at the other side of the lake at Villa Verdin, a beautiful hotel and restaurant with a vintage flair combined with new design. The hotel is full of dogs since the owners got two (or three?) by themselves. The location is beautiful, we ate outside and had a perfect view at the lake during sunset. The dinner itself was great, the menu changes on a daily basis so I assume that it never gets boring even when you're going there more often. After three courses, I was more than satisfied and we went home. Since nights are getting chillier in Austria already, we used our fireplace in the house and made a cosy evening with an episode of Mister Robot.
On the next morning, the weather got even better and I was wearing a linen dress and hat I borrowed from my boyfriend's mum because I forgot to pack one by myself. She and her husband also have a dog, a Springer Spaniel called Rudi. Mia and Rudi were having a lot of fun in the water by retrieving dummies all the time. Since Rudi is professionally trained, Mia admired his skills but started to freeze after a while so I put her into a dry towel where she snuggled up. In the evening, we ate self made Gnocchi with tomato sauce and travelled home after.
How about you, have you ever been to Austria? Or even Carinthia?
